CMPO Studentships

The Department of Economics, University of Bristol, is seeking applications for 2 ESRC 1+3 or +3 PhD Studentships in association with the Centre for Market and Public Organisation (CMPO).  The  studentships are funded by the ESRC. The funding will cover standard ESRC fees and an allowance of £16,290 per year.  The studentships will start in September 2010. We welcome any applications within the Centre's interests.

The Centre for Market and Public Organisation (CMPO) is a leading research centre, combining expertise in economics, geography and law. For more details on research areas, see http://www.bristol.ac.uk/cmpo/. Our objective is to study the intersection between the public and private sectors of the economy, and in particular to understand the right way to organise and deliver public services. The Centre aims to develop research, contribute to the public debate and inform policy-making. CMPO started its second five years as an ESRC Research Centre in October 2009. The Centre was established in 1998 with two large grants from The Leverhulme Trust. In 2004 we were awarded ESRC Research Centre status, and CMPO now combines core funding from both the ESRC and the Trust.

Bristol's Department of Economics provides an excellent environment for doctoral research. The Department was ranked joint 6th in the UK for research in the latest Research Assessment Exercise; together with CMPO it also offers a friendly, enthusiastic and sociable research community.

Candidates for this post must satisfy the ESRC's usual requirements for research students regarding academic qualifications and residential eligibility, as set out in the ESRC's 2009
