9 December 2010Professor Paul Gregg has been invited by Alan Milburn, Independent Reviewer on Social Mobility, to form part of a new advisory group.
The advisory group will be tasked with:
Alan Milburn will undertake an annual review of the effectiveness of the Government's actions and the contributions made by civil society, employers, community groups and other non-state parties to improving social mobility. He will provide annual reports to the Deputy Prime Minister, in time to be laid before Parliament in September each year, demonstrating whether verifiable progress is being made in how government and non-government approaches and policies are helping or hindering progress. His first report will be laid before Parliament in September 2011 and should aim to stimulate Parliamentary debate about social mobility.
It is also expected that Alan Milburn, under the counsel of his advisors will help to raise awareness and understanding of social mobility.

He will also make recommendations to assess whether there is progress towards the goal of the UK becoming more socially mobile.
