What can the CBC fund?

CASE Studentships

Funding for 3 years full time student (including maintenance / Fees and RTSG) subject to the ESRC postgraduate training guidance notes and eligilibity requirements.  The CASE partner to provide an annual stipend of £2k to the student.

Vouchers

Each voucher is worth £3,000 to enable Third Sector organisations to fund short term academic consultancy to access research relevant to their organisation, or to frame questions that might be addressed through the commissioning of new research.  A short case study is to be produced for each voucher outlining the voucher activity or project and the actual / potential impact.

MSc Interns

Students will work with a partner organisation.  The stipend for each student is £1,500 to cover travel and research expenses.

Placement Fellows

The placement scheme allows for social science researchers to spend time in partner Third Sector organisations (or vice versa) working on projects put forward by the project partner or developed in collaboration with the CBC.  The placement must demonstrate knowledge exchange between the partners, providing research informed evidence to develop and review policy and practise; provide career development and offer skills updating; and to enable all parties to develop their understanding of research and policy making processes and the interaction between them.    Placements can be up to 6 months and the CBC will fund salary costs, travel and subsistence.

Knowledge Transfer Partnerships

Knowledge Transfer Patnerships (KTP’s) are strategic collaborations between a business / TSO and a university; matching the needs of the business with academic knowledge and expertise and employing a graduate / postgraduate researcher (Associate) to manage the project on a day to day basis.  The length of a project can be negotiated but can be anything from 6 to 24 months.  The Associates are employed by the university but based at company premises with a company supervisor.  Academic supervisors spend on average 0.5 days per week at company premises to support the Associates.  The KTP budget includes Associate employment costs, acadmic support, Associate development, travel and equipment.  The CBC will fund two thirds of the budget and the partner will the remaining third.
