Our website ************************** - Before you start! - Please ensure you have administrator's rights to the computer on which you are going to install MLwiN. (Contact your local computer support or network administrator if you are not sure what administrator's rights means.) During the installation or upgrade you may be asked whether you want to overwrite an existing file. Please choose yes as MLwiN may not be properly installed otherwise. - New installation - 1) Insert the CD in the CD-drive 2) Run "setup.exe" and follow through the on-screen instructions. - Upgrading a previous version - Owners of previous version(s) of MLwiN can upgrade to the latest version of MLwiN. You can upgrade previous version(s) of MLwiN on your computer using either the installation CD or the upgrade programme file downloadable from our website. During the upgrade you will be prompted with 3 options of Modify, Repair or Remove. Choose Modify and ensure that the programs file check box on the next screen is ticked. From installation CD -------------------- 1) Insert the CD in the CD-drive 2) Run "setup.exe" and follow through the on-screen instructions From the upgrade programme file downloadable from our website ------------------------------------------------------------- 1) Save the upgrade programme file to a temporary folder 2) Run the upgrade programme to start the upgrade and follow through the on-screen instructions Note the upgrade programme requires a previous licensed version of MLwiN to be on the target computer. If you are a licensed MLwiN user, but no longer have MLwiN installed on your target computer, and no longer have access to the original media, you will require the full installation CD. See installation CD section for details on how to obtain this. Upgrading previous version(s) installed on a network drive ---------------------------------------------------------- In order for an upgrade to be successful it must be able to locate a previous version on one of the computers fixed hard drives. If you have installed MLwiN onto a network drive instead, then the old version will not be found and the upgrade will not be successful. If you wish to upgrade a network installation of MLwiN you may require the full installation CD. See installation CD for details on how to obtain this. - Installation CD - If you are a licensed user of MLwiN you may request a replacement CD containing the current version. There will be a small charge to cover administration, handling and shipping of this CD. If you require a CD, please e-mail mlwin-order@bristol.ac.uk with the subject "Replacement MLwiN CD" giving principal user's name, the date you purchased MLwiN and your current postal address. - Default programme folder - By default, MLwiN will be installed in the folder "C:\Program Files\MLwiN2(r)". You may specify an alternative folder of your choice during the installation. - Problems with installation - Contact us via e-mail at mlwin-support@bristol.ac.uk if you experience any problems installing MLwiN. - Manuals - Manuals, including A User's Guide to MLwiN, MCMC estimation in MLwiN and Command Manual, are available for reference on the installation CD. The latest version of these documents is also available from our website. These are PDF format files so you will need Adobe Reader/Acrobat to read them. We have provided a free copy of Acrobat Reader on the CD in the Acrobat folder, if you experience problems installing this please contact Adobe (www.adobe.com). - Bugs - If you think you have discovered a bug in MLwiN, please report it via e-mail at mlwin-support@bristol.ac.uk.
