The Academic Unit of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, based in St Michael's Hospital, has a long tradition of academic excellence and endeavour. Our research philosophy is to integrate basic and applied biomedical and health services research of a high quality on one site, within a setting in which patients are cared for and where undergraduate teaching and postgraduate training are also taking place. Over the recent past, in line with other areas of the University, our research has become more focused on areas of Reproductive Health and Parturition.

Dr David Cahill is Head of The Academic Unit of Obstetrics & Gynaecology and Reader in Reproductive Medicine, and Honorary Consultant Obstetrician Gynecologist at St Michael’s Hospital.

The Academic Unit of Obstetrics & Gynaecology has both research and teaching activity:

Professor Andrés López Bernal is heading basic research in Obstetrics & Gynaecology as non-clinical Professor in Human Reproductive Biology. We have just completed a redevelopment of part of our laboratories and this will help us to develop our laboratory-based research further, spanning the above clinical areas. We hope you enjoy visiting the site.
