BY TRAIN
Rail services to and from the area are among the fastest and most efficient in Britain. Bristol City’s two main stations are Temple Meads in the centre of Bristol and Parkway on the city’s northern outskirts. The journey from Temple Meads to Southmead Hospital (by taxi) should take between 25 and 35 minutes, and from Parkway 10 to 15 minutes. There is also a bus service which operates between both stations and Southmead Hospital. Please be advised that these stated journey times can increase by ½ hour during morning and evening rush hour.
MOTORWAY
Bristol is well served with excellent road links. The M4 and M5 put both London and Birmingham within a two-hour drive from Bristol. The M32 links both these motorways right into the centre of Bristol. Cardiff can be reached in less than an hour over the Second Severn Crossing.
From the M4 – (from London): Leave the motorway at Junction 19 and this will take you on to the M32 (to Bristol). Almost immediately, leave the M32 at Junction 1 and take the right-hand lane, following signs for the A4174, sign-posted to Parkway Station. Staying on the A4174, proceed along the dual carriageway, passing the Forte Posthouse Crest Hotel on your left and through two sets of traffic lights. At the traffic-light-controlled roundabout (Ministry of Defence on your left, Sainsbury’s supermarket on your right) continue to follow the signs for the A4174. Continue along the dual carriageway, passing through two more sets of traffic lights. At the approach to Filton roundabout at the top of the hill, move into the filter lane on the left to join the A38 heading towards central Bristol. Go straight over at one mini-roundabout (St. Andrews Church and Filton Police Station on the left) and another at the junction alongside Filton Park shops. Continue along the A38 passing Monks Park School on your right. As you approach the traffic lights at Monks Park, get into the right-hand lane to turn into Monks Park Avenue. Southmead Hospital is approximately a quarter of a mile along the road, on the left-hand side. The entrance has an automatic barrier. The Minor Injuries Unit should be to your left.
From the M5 – Leave the motorway at Junction 16 (on the interchange) and join the A38 into Bristol. Proceed along the A38 as outlined below*.
From the M4 – (from South Wales): At the Almondsbury Interchange (Junction 20), join the M5 (signposted South West) and at Junction 16 on the interchange), leave the motorway and follow the signs for the A38 to Bristol. *Proceed along the A38 (dual carriageway – 40mph limit), straight across at the Aztec West roundabout and follow the signs to Filton, passing the Royal Mail building and aircraft runway on your right, Filton College on your left. At the top of the hill go straight across at Filton roundabout. Continue along the A38 (Gloucester Road North). Straight over one mini-roundabout (St. Andrew’s Church and Filton Police Station on the left) and another at the junction alongside Filton Park shops. Continue past Monks Park School (on your right). As you approach Monks Park traffic lights, get into the right-hand lane to turn into Monks Park Avenue. Southmead Hospital is approximately a quarter of a mile along the road, on the left-hand side. The entrance has an automatic barrier. The Minor Injuries Unit should be to your left.
BY CAR – ALL OTHER ROUTES
From the centre of Bristol, i.e. the main Broadmead Haymarket roundabout – join the A38 North (to Gloucester). Proceed along the A38 for approximately 3 miles (passing through Stokes Croft, Cheltenham Road and Gloucester Road) to Horfield. After passing Horfield Sports Centre on your left, turn left at next set of traffic lights into Monks Park Avenue. Southmead Hospital is approximately a quarter of a mile along the road, on the left-hand side. The entrance has an automatic barrier. The Minor Injuries Unit should be to your left.

DIRECTIONS TO THE LEARNING RESEARCH CENTRE
Once inside the main entrance, with the Minor Injuries Unit. on your left, proceed along Monks Park Way to the mini-roundabout, turn right onto Tyndall Way, follow the road round and then take the first turning on the right. The Learning & Research Centre is the multicoloured building situated on the right hand side. The Academic Respiratory Unit is located in the University of Bristol offices on the 2nd floor of the Learning and Research Centre.
