Dementia Research Group

Severe Aβ deposition in brain causing Alzheimer changes

Extensive deposition of Aβ in small
blood vessels in a patient with severe
cerebral amyloid angiopathy associated
with Alzheimer's disease.

The Dementia Research Group is headed by Dr Patrick Kehoe and Professor Seth Love and is focused on the molecular epidemiology and pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease and related dementias. Our research programme translates a number of interwoven research themes using molecular genetic, biochemical, cell culture-based and neuropathological approaches to the study of dementia. The Research Group is part of the School of Clinical Sciences (SOCS), University of Bristol and is based in the John James Laboratories at Frenchay Hospital. The John James Laboratories also house the Human Tissue Authority-licensed South West Dementia Brain Bank. The Dementia Research Group is part of the University of Bristol Institute of Clinical Neurosciences and Bristol & Bath Alzheimer's Research UK Network Centre.

Some of the work of the Dementia Research Group would not have been possible without the generous support of our various sponsors, including alumni and friends of the University
