Research summary

Dr Thyagarajan's main research interest is supporting patients with therapeutic hypothermia following perinatal brain injury. His focus has been on the role of Susceptibility weighted MR imaging in outcome prediction in HIE. He collaborated with Dr Brigitte Vollmer (Southampton) and Prof Mats Blennow (Karolinska University, Sweden) in a multicentric trial on feeding in neonatal hypoxic ischaemic encephalopathy patients. He currently collaborates with the Neonatal neurology team at Bristol - working closely with Dr Ela Chakkarapani and his team.

Biography

Dr Thyagarajan is a consultant neonatologist with active research interest in neonatal neurology and neurodevelopmental outcomes. He was trained in Leeds, Newcastle, London and Southampton. He was jointly responsible for establishing the Soton neonatal followup programme. He continues his neonatal neuroscience research in Bristol. His other areas of interest include risk management, quality improvement and clinical effectiveness and is a Specialist Advisor for the Care Quality Commission.
