Thornhill-Leventis Postdoctoral Fellow in Greek Studies(Institute of Greece, Rome and the Classical Tradition)
Jessica Priestley has research interests in Herodotus and his reception in antiquity, Hellenistic poetry, Greek historiography, and ancient geographical thought. Her 2010 Cambridge PhD thesis, 'Herodotus and Hellenistic Culture: Studies in the Reception of the Historiae', highlighted Herodotus’ pervasive importance in a variety of different areas of intellectual pursuit during the third and second centuries BC. She is now in the process of revising her PhD thesis for publication with OUP and developing a new project on geographical writing and thought in the Hellenistic period.
Dr Priestley is also involved in co-ordinating the implementation of a new outreach project at Bristol which has been funded by a grant from the charity Classics for All. This project will see students from the University of Bristol teaching 'taster classes' in Classics in local state schools in 2012 and 2013.
In 2012-2013 Dr Priestley will be teaching Latin B1 (Ovid's Heroides).
