Launching 'Ovid in the West Country' 2019
8 July 2019
On 3rd July, we held a workshop to introduce secondary English teachers to the format of our annual 'Ovid in the West Country' competition.
The Ovid in the West Country competition is part of an initiative set up by the Cambridge Schools Classics Project (CSCP) to promote classics in state schools. The University of Bristol and the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol) are working in partnership with CSCP for the third consecutive year to run this competition for Year 7 and 8 students in local schools.
We were delighted to welcome 17 teachers from 11 different schools to UWE Bristol on Wednesday 3rd July for a workshop which explored the value of sharing classical myths in English classrooms.
Joan Foley, PGCE Secondary English Group Tutor at UWE Bristol, led the session and shared information about the Classical Tales and a number of other fantastic storytelling resources.
We are really looking forward to receiving entries from schools next term and celebrating students' hard work at the prize-giving event on 4th December at the University of Bristol.
