- Bristol's football teams, Bristol City and Bristol Rovers, are renowned for their local rivalry; the Bristol Rugby Club, formed in 1888, is still going strong
- The Easton Cowboys, a community football team, host international tournaments and have toured to the Continent, California and Zapatista-held areas of Chiapas, Mexico
- The BUPA Bristol Half-Marathon celebrated its 18th year in 2006; in 2001 the city hosted the tenth IAAF World Half-Marathon
- Bristol's harbour hosts several boat races throughout the year
- There are community sports centres and leisure centres in the city, all with a wide range of activities and courses to suit all ages and abilities
