Chemical Synthesis CDT research highlighted on national press

30 November 2017

Recently published paper on the synthesis of novel antibiotics captures the public interest.

Chemical Synthesis CDT student Jon Davies (2015 Cohort) with collaborators from the School of Chemistry and the School of Biological Sciences has recently published a paper in Nature Communications.

The article entitled Heterologous expression reveals the biosynthesis of the antibiotic pleuromutilin and generates bioactive semi-synthetic derivatives, describes the genetic steps involved in pleuromutilin biosynthesis through rational heterologous expression in Aspergillus oryzae and establishes a platform for bio-conversion of chemically modified analogues generating a semi-synthetic pleuromutilin derivative with enhanced antibiotic activity.

You can read more about in on the University of Bristol's news page and an article published on i Newspaper by Padraic Flanagan on 29th Nov 2017.
