Profile

Joe Studwell has worked as a freelance writer and journalist throughout the world for nearly 20 years. He has also written various books, including The China Dream: the Quest for the Greatest Untapped Market on Earth (Profile/Grove Atlantic, 2002). His latest book, Asian Godfathers: Money and Power in Hong Kong and South-East Asia, was published in 2007. The Wall Street Journal (Asia) named Asian Godfathers one of the year’s ten best books on Asia. BusinessWeek listed it as one of the world’s top 10 business books that year.

From 1997 to 2007, Joe was editor-in-chief of the China Economic Quarterly (CEQ). He was also a founder and director of the Asian advisory firm Dragonomics (www.dragonomics.net). Currently, Joe is undertaking post-graduate research at Cambridge University about Chinese firms in the solar, wind and battery sectors, and is working on a new book about Asian development, provisionally titled How Asia Works.
