Profile
Aglaia De Angeli (PhD Lyon, France) is Postdoctoral research assistant on France-Italy and China relations in the ESRC funded research project entitled "Colonialism in comparative perspective: Tianjin under nine flags, 1860-1949". She is currently assisting Dr Maurizio Marinelli and Professor Nicolas Cooper in researching the Italian and French archives.
Aglaia is an historian and sinologist specialized in the Republican period. Her doctoral research mainly focused on the social and gender aspects of crime in Republican Shanghai, from where she started researching a new topic: the legal culture and practice of justice in China in the first half of the twentieth century.
Aglaia will contribute to the ESRC research project researching the comparative dimension of the practice of justice among the different concessions in Tianjin. Her work will also entail an in-depth study of extraterritoriality.
