Profile

Weipin is currently working on the Chinese Maritime Customs Service Project, which reflects her general interest in Chinese modern history. Weipin is also working on two issues in modern Chinese cultural history: the appearance of individual savings accounts, and the idea of shame in the context of nationalism before the Sino-Japanese War of 1937. The shifting concept of ‘common sense’ is firmly at the centre of the research, as studying this piece of terminology allows Weipin to grasp the changes in Chinese society during the modern period.
