Mr Jamie Carstairs,School of Humanities, University of Bristol
Jamie Carstairs is a photographer assisting the Chinese Maritime Customs Project team. He digitally re-photographs old photographs of China and adds metadata. The images are archived to DVDs, which are given to the owners of the photographs and also uploaded to the Historical Photographs of China website. Jamie is one of the co-authors of Picturing China 1870-1950, Photographs from British Collections (2007) and co-cuarated the eponymous exhibition at SOAS in the autumn of 2007. The exhibition included some portaits (‘Old China Hands’) taken by him. ‘Picturing China’ is curently on at the Oriental Museum, Durham. Jamie’s background is in anthropology and documentary photography - he has had over 400 pictures published.
