A PhD student in the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Communications, Oliver Norman James, was successful in reaching the finals of the student paper competition at the 2016 IEEE Antennas and Propagation Symposium. He presented his work on ‘user-effect antenna detuning’, where the performance of an antenna degrades when a mobile handset antenna is covered by the user’s hand.
The 2016 IEEE Antennas and Propagation Symposium took place at the Waldorf Astoria El Conquistador Resort in Fajardo, Puerto Rico from 27 June to 1 July 2016. The symposium attracts speakers from around the world for a series of presentations, poster sessions and short course tutorial sessions and features a student paper competition. It is the first year that the symposium was held in IEEE Region 9 (Latin America).
