UoB Internship Scheme

2015/16 Funding has now been allocated for UoB, Santander and Q-Step Internship Schemes

We have now allocated all available funding for 2015/16 for UoB, Santander and Q-Step Internship schemes and are operating a waiting list for student sourced internships. We still have a number of organised internships available on our vacancies board. For all enquiries please email careers-uobinterns@bristol.ac.uk

The university runs its own internship scheme to support students and graduates wanting to gain quality, paid work experience. The UoB Internship Scheme provides internship opportunities with Small and Medium size Enterprises (SMEs) in the UK, including charities, social enterprises and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs).

Participating organisations have ranged from publishers to research consultancies to financial organisations, and internships have included marketing roles, events positions, researchers, businesses development roles and IT-related positions.

The internship was fantastic - I learned so much about the workings of a business. I gained a range of experiences that have developed my self-awareness and given me plenty to talk about in applications and interviews. I've come away more confident in my abilities and with a number of professional connections.

UoB Intern

Internship Scheme details

Internships can be either be 4 or 8 weeks full time or 140 or 280 hours part time. They can take place during term time as well as vacations, and sometimes during both. Typically the working pattern will suit both the organisation and intern. The University of Bristol recommends students work no more than 15 hours per week during term-time in order to leave sufficient time for academic study.

All UoB Interns are paid at least National Minimum Wage (£6.70 from October 2015), and the organisation employing an intern is responsible for making the remuneration by PAYE. Organisations taking part in the scheme receive financial support towards the wage.

Current students and recent graduates can undertake one internship as part of the UoB Internship Scheme each academic year. Overseas students can take part if they have permission to work in the UK.

All internships must begin before the end of July 2016 and conclude by 16 September 2016.

How to get involved

There are two ways to get involved:

  1. Look at our job listings and apply for a role that interests you. Organisations carry out their own recruitment and selection for UoB Interns. UoB Internships are identified as such on the listings and new opportunities are added regularly.
  2. Source an internship yourself and work with an organisation to apply for funding.
