Funding opportunities

One of the key roles of the Cabot Institute is to support and nurture new research and initiatives through seedcorn funding. The approach is very flexible and includes funding for staff to participate in developing research consortia, funds to develop new collaborations both internally and externally, and funds for sandpits and workshops on topical interdisciplinary issues which have potential for further fundraising and larger scale project development. This approach has already yielded considerable success, see our case studies pages for examples of these success stories.

Cabot Institute Innovation Fund

Every year we hold an annual call for applications to our Innovation Fund. This fund is designed to pump prime innovative interdisciplinary research ideas, with a view to developing major future proposals, or to support impact or engagement-focussed activities.  Funds of around £30k are available to pump-prime new research activity, or to help deliver impact or engagement. Applications must:

  • Reflect Cabot’s interdisciplinary and engaged research approach, which brings together researchers from across disciplines and faculties, and involves non-academic partners. Cabot is supported by all faculties in the University of Bristol, and we welcome relevant applications from all areas of the university.
  • Reflect Cabot’s research focus on exploring the ways in which we depend on and shape our planet.
