Big Ideas in BioDesign

BrisSynBio is inviting applications for funding for Big Ideas in BioDesign projects.

This call is open to applicants from the Bristol BioDesign Institute community

£300k is available to support up to 5 Big Ideas in BioDesign projects (direct costs only).  Projects should be founded on the application or development of synthetic biology approaches. We particularly encourage applications describing new ideas and individuals, and thereby growing our BrisSynBio portfolio. All applications must include a detailed plan for securing longer term funding.

This scheme is open to all permanent academic staff or independently funded research fellows across the Bristol BioDesign community is its broadest sense. External academic and commercial collaborators are welcome, however all projects must have a University of Bristol or University of West England PI. We do not envisage funding requests for extensions or incremental changes to existing BrisSynBio projects, however there is no restriction on PIs that already hold BrisSynBio funding applying for funds to support new ideas and collaborations.

Deadline: 8 November 2017

Panel meeting: 24 November 2017

Outcomes: by 30 November 2017
