About the Award

The LESARS Committee is please to announce the launch of the LESARS Visiting fellowship scheme. The primary purpose of the LESARS Fellowship scheme is to bring distinguished researchers to the School of Biological Sciences to enhance the research activity of the School within the area of agricultural sciences and to provide a mechanism for Bristol researchers to establish long term relationships with other centres of excellence.The LESARS Committee intends to offer one Fellowship per year, with the call for the 2009 and 2010 Fellowship (one for each year) now open.

Who can Apply?

The LESARS Visiting Fellowship scheme is open to both UK and overseas researchers.

What is the duration of the Fellowship?

It can be for any period up to a maximum of four weeks. There is no specified minimum period.

What does the Fellowship cover?

The award, which is limited to no more than £5000 per fellowship, is intended to cover the travel costs of the Fellow to and from the UK (if appropriate) and subsistence costs while in Bristol. It is expected that any research costs will be covered by the host laboratory.

What are the duties of the LESARS Fellow?

Whilst visiting the School, the Fellow will present the "LESARS lecture", which would be open to both members of the University and the general public. In addition, preference will be given to those applications which include some contact time with both undergraduate and post-graduate students, however, it is important to note that this contact time must not include or replace time tabled lectures.

On completion of the award, the host will be required to submit a one page report on the outcome of the visit. This report will be hosted on the LESARS web site and hence will be available to the public.

How to Apply

Applications for the visiting Fellowship Scheme should come from the Bristol-based host laboratory and include the scientific background to the visit, the relevance to the LESARS remit and a short account of the expertise of the invited Fellow and the likely outcome. Applications should be no longer than one page in length. The 2009 and 2010 call is open with immediate effect, the 2009 call will close on Friday 27th June 2009 and the 2010 call will close on the 1st August 2009.
