The School of Biological Sciences receives around 15 scholarships for PhD study each year. Studentship opportunities are advertised on this website, jobs.ac.uk and findaphd.com.
The School receives an annual quota of fully-funded studentships from the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) and Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC). Full scholarships are generally restricted to UK students and EU students who fulfil the 3 year residence criteria (work or full time education). These Research Council studentships are awarded through university departments - the Research Councils do not deal directly with applicants - but you can check the NERC Website and BBSRC Website for more information about these studentship schemes or if you would like to check your eligibility for these awards.
These provide full scholarships (fees plus £12,000 pa stipend) for PhD applicants from certain countries overseas - see The Office of Science and Technology Website for more information. Application deadlines and eligibility restrictions may vary from year to year. Please contact Charlotte Webb for more information.
The British Council office in your country may be able to advise you of further funding opportunities.
