Award Recognising Support for Teaching & Learning

We are delighted to announce that Maggie Gamble has won one of only three University Awards Recognising Support for Teaching & Learning. Her citation follows:

Maggie is a senior technician in the School of Biological Sciences. Her performance in this role is excellent and  significantly above and beyond what one may normally expect. The consequence of this sustained excellence is that first-rate practical classes and other activities are provided giving the very best teaching and learning experience to our students.

Maggie is a keen amateur biologist and natural historian. She actively participates in practical classes (helps students with experiments, identification, animal dissection); she therefore supplements the teaching and learning being provided by academic and demonstrating staff. Maggie brings her own interest and enthusiasm to this and so to the students too. Maggie has an excellent rapport with both staff and students.

Maggie is so committed to the learning experience in the School that for a recent practical class, she drove to the Dorset coast on a Sunday, to bring back fresh fish for Monday's practical class. Without such commitment, and behind the scenes effort, academic staff would be more limited in the practical classes that could be run, and the student learning experience would be impoverished.

Maggie’s support of teaching and learning in the School is absolutely exceptional. Her commitment and application to providing support in the School are second to none and as a result, many cohorts of students and members of staff have benefited from her dedication.

Maggie’s support of teaching and learning in the School is absolutely exceptional.
