K: drive.
Undergraduates can use two network folders/drives to save their work. Both folders are automatically backed up every day.
Your K: drive (aka CUFS) is provided by Information Services and can hold 50 MB of data. The K: drive isn't very big but it's fine for most purposes. If you log into any public computer in the University it will automatically connect to the drive. You can also access files in your K: drive through the web by logging into the My Bristol portal and clicking File and Print, then My Documents (K Drive).
Biological Sciences provides you with a personal folder, the P: drive. It has a larger capacity than the K: drive but only PCs in the School will automatically connect to it. If you're using a computer elsewhere in the University, you can open your personal folder by clicking Start, Run, and entering this line, followed by your username:
\\dfs1.bris.ac.uk\DeptFS\biosci\Users\Undergraduates\
So if your username is ab1234, enter:
\\dfs1.bris.ac.uk\DeptFS\biosci\Users\Undergraduates\ab1234
You can't access your P: drive from home.
Be careful when using the My Documents folder. In C33, files saved to My Documents are automatically put in your K: drive, but this won't be true of every University computer. Always double check that you haven't accidentally saved your work to the computer you're using rather than your network folder.
Your network folders are considered "personal" and will not ordinarily be looked at without your permission. However, you must abide by the University's regulations for computer use. In particular, the rules prohibit "making, storing or transferring unlicensed copies of any copyright or trademark work including computer programs".
