The Behavioural Ecology of Mosquitoes and the Transmission of Disease
The transmission cycles of many important and emerging diseases are dependent on vectors. Mosquitoes alone are thought to transmit diseases that impact one-third of the human population. Mosquito behaviour and life history can have substantial impact on disease transmission. I will highlight some key examples of how improving our understanding of how mosquito respond to biotic and abiotic changes can inform our understanding of disease transmission dynamics and ultimately improve control of mosquito-borne diseases.
