Synthetic Biology

Bristol University has an exciting, prize-winning community of young biologists and engineers who are looking to the future. Come and meet some of them and learn about the new science of Synthetic Biology. We'll be thinking about questions like:
- What is synthetic biology?
- What types of synthetic biological systems have already been made?
- Is synthetic biology desirable or safe?
- How easy is it to predictably engineer a biological system?
- What synthetic biological systems might we want to make and why?
- Can modelling help us to test/improve our designs?
- What is the iGEM synthetic biology competition and how does it work?
Previous teams including Bristol Biology undergraduates have had great success in synthetic biology, winning international medals and special prizes (e.g. see the recent news story).
