Our mission is to:

  • Gain a fundamental understanding of the cardiovascular system in health and disease
  • Use this knowledge for the benefit of our patients
  • Provide leadership in training the next generation of top scientists and academic clinicians
  • Act as a centre for public engagement, information, and debate
  • Be a source of advice for patients and policy makers

Our priorities for 2012 - 2016 are to:

  • Further develop our clinical research pillar and renew our BRU status (we achieved this in late 2011)
  • Further develop our basic science research pillar and align the BHI to Centre of Excellence status
  • Complete translation process of  our research on atherothrombosis
  • Create a centre for Regenerative Medicine integrated into the BHI
  • Train the next generation of world-class cardiovascular scientists and clinical academics
