Research at the BHI
"....translating basic science into clinical practice....."
At the BHI scientists and clinicians work together to gain a better understanding of many types of cardiovascular disease. We then aim to use this knowledge to provide better treatment and prevention of heart disease. Our research goes from molecule to man, and out into the wider community.
Some of the areas we are investigating are:
- hypertension (high blood pressure)
- risk factors for heart disease
- cardiac arrhythmias (abnormalities of the heartbeat)
- atherosclerosis
- blood clotting
- effect of diet and exercise
- protection of hearts during surgery
- new surgical procedures
More on each of these subjects can be found in our research brochure.
