Closing Celebration for Life of Breath

27 February 2020, 6.30 PM - 27 February 2020, 8.30 PM

Bristol Museum & Art Gallery, Queen’s Road, Bristol, BS8 1RL

We are delighted to invite you to join us for the official closing of the Life of Breath Project, which has been running since 2014 and is soon ending, alongside our Catch Your Breath Bristol exhibition.

  • 6:30pm: Drinks reception & special 'Catch your Breath' exhibition viewing
  • 7:30pm: Speeches
  • 8.00pm: Performance of Under the Surface, a choral piece, commissioned by Life of Breath, to be performed live at the event (30 mins)

In our workshops, we are gathering audience contributions along the way and very much look forward to displaying these creative responses and observations at this end of project event alongside showcasing our exhibition display.

Under the Surface is a choral piece composed by Toby Young and is inspired by the research of the Life of Breath team, particularly the work of Havi Carel and Alice Malpass, exploring the experience and isolation of people affected by breathlessness. It uses two separate choirs, a larger group (the University of Bristol singers) and a smaller group (award-winning vocal consort The Brabant Ensemble, pictured below), conducted by their director Stephen Rice.
