The Bristol Poetry Institute in partnership with Hammer and Tongue present Stephen James Smith, with support from Sophie Dumont and Cian Murphy.

Stephen James Smith is a Dublin poet and playwright; his contributions to the spoken word genre have led to a resurgence of the form in Ireland. To date, his online poetry videos have received over 2.5 million views.

In 2017, Smith was commissioned by the St. Patrick’s Festival to write a 'celebratory narrative' of Ireland. The resultant poem, 'My Ireland,' was produced by the director, Myles O’Reilly, arranged and mixed by Conor O’Brien of the Villagers, and accompanied by music from Colm Mac Con Iomaire, Loah, Saint Sister, Eithne Ní Chatháin (aka Inni-K) and Ye Vagabonds. The film was screened at the London Film Festival. More recently, Stephen has performed as special guest for Eddie Vedder at Dublin's 3Arena and alongside Ed Sheeran at The London Irish Centre. His debut collection of (page) poetry, Fear Not, appeared from Arlen House this September.
