Postgraduate Degrees (Overseas Students)
We offer a wide range of specialist and internationally recognised one-year taught Masters programmes in archaeology and anthropology.
These courses provide the ideal stepping-stone between
undergraduate degrees and doctoral research, and are often used by overseas students as a way of gaining experience of contemporary British thought in a particular aspect of archaeology or anthropology before pursuing doctoral research elsewhere in the world. The courses we offer are
- MA Landscape Archaeology
- MA Historical Archaeology of the Modern World (AD 1500-2000)
- MA Mediterranean Archaeology
- MA Archaeology for Screen Media
- MA Maritime Archaeology and History
- MSc Social Anthropology
We also welcome applications from postgraduate students wishing to undertake an MPhil or PhD by research in any of the areas of research currently underway in the Department.

Sources of Funding
The following are the main sources of funding available for overseas students wishing to pursue a postgraduate degree.
1. The ORS (Overseas Research Scholarships)
The
Overseas Research Scholarships
pay the difference between the 'overseas' and 'home'
tuition fees and is available for students undertaking research
degrees (not taught masters courses) at the University. Application forms are available from
the Student Finance Office
The closing date for applications is usually early in the year, well before the Autumn term. The competition is very strong. To apply
for an award, you must first be accepted by the Department of
Archaeology and Anthropology and then make a joint application with the Department. An application typically takes six weeks, so an early
start is essential. For further information, email the Graduate Tutor for Archaeology and Anthropology (Admissions) - Dan.Hicks@bris.ac.uk.

Cost of Living
A rough estimate is that in addition to tuition fees you will need about £7000 per year for travel, food, clothes and accommodation, etc. while you are here. Taught classes for MA course end in June, and students often spend the last 3 months of these courses conducting fieldwork or writing away from Bristol.
