For Health and Safety reasons we provide white coats for Dissecting Room sessions. These must remain within the dissecting suite and will be laundered by the department. We ask you to pay £10 a year for hire and laundry charges. The Centre for Comparative and Clinical Anatomy therefore requires a cheque (payable to the University of Bristol) or cash to be paid during your Introduction to Year 1 session.
It is an enormous advantage to own a skull for private study. Real ones are difficult to obtain, but very good plastic replicas are available. There are many suppliers, but our favourite is the P10 model, from Adam,Rouilly. They cost approximately £168.

It is NOT essential for you to buy one, as you can study them in class.
In Year 2 you will be studying tooth morphology. The ideal way of studying this is to have your own personal collection of extracted human teeth containing one of each of the permanent upper and lower incisors, canines, premolars and first and second molars from either side, and also upper and lower deciduous molars from either side. The crowns should all be intact and as much of the root as possible. If your dentist collects them for you, you will need to supply a labelled jar with a tightly fitting lid, half full of 10% bleach. In order to remove remnants of bone, calculus or gingivae, the teeth should be rinsed and placed in a stronger solution of 30% bleach for a couple of days. The extraneous material can then be removed very carefully with an appropriate instrument. Make sure you wear gloves during these initial stages. Once all extraneous material has been removed, you should wash the teeth in water and leave them to dry. You can then store them for use as a study aid. If you are not able to obtain a full set, or even any at all, it’s not the end of the world because we have sets for use in class.
