The CCCA encompasses the University of Bristol Clinical Training Centre which hosts advanced and specialist courses in surgical skills and CPD. The Training Centre is run by our highly qualified, experienced support team backed up by professional anatomists and clinicians. It is a national leader in the field offering a range of superb facilities which support the use of embalmed and fresh frozen human and animal cadaveric material, underpinning excellent training from undergraduate level to consultant surgeon. The CCCA relies heavily on the generosity of members of the public who bequeath their bodies to the Centre. The Centre also provides material and support for many clinically related research projects. The clinical training courses offered by the Centre are currently dental, orthopaedic, laparoscopic and plastic surgery. The Centre also offers its own Human Anatomy Refresher Course for external undergraduates. Among the organisations using the Training Centre are:

“ETHICON was delighted to host an expert panel meeting at the Clinical Anatomy Suite. The meeting was a huge success and feedback was excellent. I have no doubt the success of the event was largely down to the superbly equipped facilities and experience of staff on hand. The Anatomy Suite provided the perfect environment in which to experience innovative technologies and advanced surgical techniques and teaching skills. The University’s team were on hand to help with any questions or additional support required around equipment or set up which made the event run seamlessly.” Miranda Miller, Professional Education Manager, Ethicon Products Division, Johnson and Johnson
The centre has three dissecting rooms (veterinary, human and clinical) which are used for in-house medical, dental and science undergraduate teaching, but may also be booked for external courses. Each dissecting room is equipped with excellent audiovisual facilities, including live video links. We hold an extensive range of human and veterinary specimens, including anatomical prosections, osteological specimens, radiological images, and a pathology collection. The clinical dissecting room is available all year regardless of undergraduate teaching.
We also have a team of medically qualified anatomy demonstrators who teach internal and external undergraduate courses. The latter include anatomy for students from other HEIs studying healthcare disciplines such as physiotherapy, chiropractic and radiography.
The centre supports a wide portfolio of external postgraduate courses, in areas such as core surgical training, specialist surgery, and anaesthesia. If you are interested in organising or attending a course in the Anatomy teaching laboratories, please follow the links below for further information:
