Bristol Alumni Weekend 2011, 1-3 July 2011

Lunch in Wills Memorial Building.

The Alumni Weekend 2011 saw over 350 former students return to Bristol for a programme of events including the reunion lunch, talks, dinners and tours of the Victoria Rooms and the Botanic Gardens.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Eric Thomas (Hon LLD 2004), led an insightful discussion on the future of research in universities, putting questions to a panel comprising of; Professor Alexander Bird, Research Director of the Faculty of Arts; Professor Sally Heslop, Professorial Teaching Fellow and Head of the Graduate School of Engineering; and Ian Wei, Senior Lecturer in Medieval European History.

Professor Jeremy O'Brien, Director of the Centre for Quantum Photonics, gave a fascinating lecture on quantum mechanics and its influence on developing future technologies, followed by an interesting question and answer session. You can see the photos and listen to both talks below.

The Chancellor, the Right Honourable Baroness Hale of Richmond (Hon LLD 2008), presided over the Annual General Meeting of the Convocation, the University’s alumni association.

While the graduates of the years 1986, 1981, 1971, and 1961 were especially celebrated during the weekend, the graduating class of 1940 was represented, as well as that of 2010. The weekend was truly international, with alumni coming from as far afield as California, Sri Lanka and Australia to attend.

The Campaigns and Alumni Relations team would like to thank all the University staff and volunteers who helped to make the weekend such a success.
