Get practical advice and guidance on career progression or securing a graduate role, and learn more about different professions - come along to the University’s new employability event designed specifically for recent graduates in Bristol.

Bristol Connects: graduate career insights takes place on Tuesday 14 November at Bristol's innovation and collaboration space, The Engine Shed. Here, you will be joined by alumni working in a number of different industries talking about their experiences, their top tips for the current job market and how they developed a successful career. 

The evening’s schedule is as follows:

6:30 pm - Doors open

7:00 pm - Talks by Stephen Wiggan (BA 2002), senior HR professional with years of experience in mentoring, coaching and career development, Luke Aikman (LLB 2006), digital entrepreneur, social media expert and experienced trainer, and the University's Careers Service, which offers practical support to graduates. Stephen will deliver a practical session, outlining potential pitfalls as well as lots of tips to help you get ahead in today's graduate employment market. Luke's talk, 'The 1% that matters: how to get a job, get promoted or start a company', will leave you feeling inspired to get ahead. 

8:00 pm - Networking reception over food and drinks with alumni established in their careers including law, property, engineering, professional services and accountancy: an opportunity to receive tailored and relevant guidance on how to succeed in your desired career path. 

You will be able to ask them any questions you may have about finding and getting your dream job. Some of the alumni you can meet and chat with on the night include:

  • Steve Hodgson (BSc Economics and Accounting with Law 1998), contracting chartered accountant specialising in the financial sector

  • Jilly Huggins (BSc Social Policy 2013), Global Governance, Risk and Compliance Manager, Tribal Group (a software and professional services organisation)
  • John Perks (MEng Aeronautical Engineering 2009), Procurement Executive, Dyson (and previously Airbus)
  • Tom Spencer (MSc International Security 2012), Teacher
  • Fred Witham (PhD Geology 2008), Combustion Engineer, Rolls-Royce
