Alumni Association Initiative Grants

Do you have a great idea to bring together the alumni community? You can now apply for a grant to get your plans off the ground.

What is an Alumni Association Initiative Grant?

The University of Bristol has a strong and supportive alumni community, and its members come together as the Alumni Association.

The grants are administered by the Alumni Association Committee, to enable new member-led activity which helps the Association to achieve its goals.

The Alumni Association exists to help build an engaged and supportive alumni community. The Alumni Association Initiative Grants form an important part of the Alumni Association’s activity, and enable individuals, or self-organised groups, to carry out new activities aligned with the Association’s mission and the University’s strategy.

The grants provide an excellent opportunity for alumni to continue their connection with the University and contribute to its community as a volunteer. This can be a great way to develop professional skills, make new contacts and play a meaningful role in Bristol’s continued success.  The grants are not capped; the average award is between £500 and £1000.

Activities you could organise include:

  • get-togethers and reunions for your peers or alumni local to you, which help alumni re-connect with Bristol and share their memories
  • professional networking based around an academic discipline or industry, which help alumni make new connections and progress in their careers
  • talks, seminars or lectures which enable alumni to learn, explore academic subject matter for which Bristol is renowned and spread news of the University’s research and reputation
  • events based around a common interest such as a student society, which allow alumni to share their expertise, explore a hobby or interest, and strengthen Bristol’s community.

Who can apply?

Any member of the Alumni Association – all alumni of the University – can apply for a grant. Students and student groups may also apply, though the primary purpose of the activity should be to bring alumni together. You should be prepared to carry out your activity as a volunteer, and you may wish to consider involving others to help. All alumni who receive a grant and carry out a new activity will be recognised as a Bristol Volunteer. Existing alumni groups, such as Branches and Hall Associations, can also apply.
