Transferring between residences

If you are currently living in a university allocated residence and would like to transfer another residence you will need to complete and return the Waiting and transfer application form (Word, 50.5kB).

What happens next

Postgraduate students - your details will be added to the:

  • vacancy list - current vacancies in University allocated accommodation
  • waiting list - waiting list for University allocated accommodation

Undergraduate students - you will be advised by the Accommodation Office when a transfer can take place. Applications are considered on an individual basis and allocations are not done on a first come, first served basis. Priority will be given to new arrivals, those in temporary accommodation and those with medical or special needs.

If you are made an offer you will be given seven days to arrange a viewing of the accommodation and confirm whether or not you wish to accept. Your offer will be cancelled if you fail to respond within seven days.

All students - You may be liable to pay a re-letting fee of up to £100 on completion of transfer between residences.


Leaving a university allocated residence

If you are thinking of moving out of your residence into privately arranged accommodation you should make sure you have read and understood the cancellation policy in your contract. You are responsible for continuing to pay your rent until a replacement tenant takes over your contract. You may also be charged a fee of up to £100 by the residence.

If you wish to leave your residence you must complete and return the Intention to leave form (Word, 37kB).

If you are withdrawing from the university you should contact the Accommodation Office for advice.

What happens next

Postgraduate students - your contact details will be added to the vacancy list. You can also contact students on the waiting list if you think they are a suitable replacement.

Undergraduate students - you will be advised by the Accommodation Office if we have a suitable replacement and your vacancy may be added to the vacancy list.

A replacement tenant found by the Accommodation Office takes priority over any found by you.


Moving into university allocated residence

If you do not currently live in a university allocated residence and wish to move into one you should complete and return the Waiting and transfer application form. (Word, 50.5kB)

What happens next

Postgraduate students - you will have your contact details added to the waiting list and will be able to contact students with vacancies in the residences.

Undergraduate students - you will be advised if there are any suitable vacancies in the residences.
