Students and the Community

All students, whether living in university accommodation or the private sector are part of the local community.

The University will do all it can to promote the positive aspects of student life and has produced the following advice to foster good relationships between students and the local community.

Students receive regular communications from the Accommodation Office, seasonally targeted. All students moving into private accommodation for the first time are emailed at the start of the academic year with the Guide to Living in the Community, emails containing guidance on parties go out in early December, on barbeques in April, etc.

In addition, roads with a high student population are identified at the start of the academic year and student properties are then visited by the University's Community Liaison Officer along with representatives from Bristol City Council waste department, Safer Bristol, Police and the University of the West of England (UWE).  Students are given information about waste and recycling, UV marker pens and Immobilise information in addition to the UOB and UWE's guides to living in the community.  Students are reminded that they are living in a residential area and that they should behave responsibly.
