Details of the full range of support available to students can be obtained here. Amongst the key supporting roles are the following:
Responsible for the pastoral care of 750 clinical medical students in the 3rd, 4th and 5th year of the MB ChB programme. The Clinical Senior Tutor is responsible for the training and support of academic mentors within the Programme. The Clinical Senior Tutor sits on the University’s Senior Tutor Network.
Responsible for the pastoral care of 500 pre-clinical medical students in the 1st and 2nd year of the MB ChB programme. The Pre-clinical Senior Tutor sits on the University’s Senior Tutor Network
The Faculty Student Advisor is a full-time, fully trained administrator providing advice and guidance and support to students on all five years of the programme on a wide range of matters, including extenuating circumstances, study and assessment concerns, and personal issues, as outlined here. This person also acts as the Faculty Disability Officer.
Academic Mentors meet regularly with their assigned students, and use their experience and mentoring skills to affirm professional identity, guide career decision-making and produce references when required. This level of support nurtures the professional and academic development of students during the whole five years of training. Mentors keep track of academic progress giving students the chance to discuss options such as intercalation. They encourage development of professional identity as well as discussing extracurricular interests and achievements.
Each year of the programme has an assigned coordinator who has responsibility for administrative delivery of that year, and who provides support for students as outlined here.
