10 April 2008

Professor Alan Emond, director of the Centre for Child and Adolescent Health in the Department of Community Based Medicine has been appointed chair of the British Association of Community Child Health (BACCH).

Professor Alan Emond, director of the Centre for Child and Adolescent Health in the Department of Community Based Medicine has achieved a national honour - he has been made chair of the British Association of Community Child Health (BACCH), the UK organisation for community paediatrics. BACCH has 1200 members and is the largest specialty group in the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health. The chair is the figurehead of the organisation, and is supported by an executive of 12 people and a full-time secretariat. Alan took over the chair at the BACCH AGM last month, and will serve for 4 years.

Alan said ‘ I am excited at the challenge of leading BACCH at a time of great change in community child health, which brings opportunities as well as threats. Children have never had such a high profile on the political agenda, and I intend to work constructively within the College and with government to promote the views of BACCH members and to be the advocate for community paediatrics more widely’.
